As Robby Riccardi travels around the world we bid farewell to one of the most influential members of SAUK in the club’s 5 year history.
Robby has been involved in the club since the beginning, long before an official committee was formed. Most major turning points that helped to build the club were either instigated by Robby or had Robby’s involvement. And being a man of the law, his legal advice has been invaluable to the club as well.
A few years ago Robby did a coaching course through the BTA and ever since he’s offered coaching advice to the club whenever needed. Robby is an avid researcher in triathlon matters and often shared his knowledge in the many informative and usually very entertaining articles he’s written for the club.
Amongst many other races, Robby has completed 5 Ironman races as well as competed in the Ironman 70.3 World Champs in Clearwater Florida. Additionally he has represented Italy in the World Triathlon Champs in Honolulu Hawaii 2005.
During the same time as all of the above, Robby has progressed from bachelorhood, to husband of Natalie, and in turn father of Jake.
At the moment, Robby, Nats and Jake are travelling around the world before returning to South Africa for the next chapter in their lives. Of course their travels had to include an Ironman race in Western Australia where Robby clocked up his PB time of 10h28m.
Training will not be the same without Robby - his enthusiasm for the sport and the club will be sorely missed.
Robby, Nats and Jake, we wish you all the best in your new ventures back home. Take care guys.
