Triathlon, Ken and Barbie. A ménage a tri.
2006. The culmination of a legendary year for SAUK Triathlon. Our athletes circumvented the globe attending races in South Africa, Switzerland, Australia, Austria, Germany, Lanzarote, Monaco, Spain, France, USA and the whole of the UK, to take part in a variety of multi-sport events from triathlon, duathlons, cycling races, road races, mountain bike races, marathons to ultra marathons.
Our athletes raced virgin races, local races, group races, qualifying races, Half Ironman Races, full Ironman races, World Triathlon Championships, World Quadrathlon Championships and World Half Ironman Championships. They even did triathlons from one country to another, swimming across the English Channel in the process. If you think it – they did it.
And the rewards were reaped on Friday the 20th October at The Telegraph in Putney at the SAUK Ken and Barbie end of year function. All the die-hards were there: the winners, the losers and the pretenders. All dressed to the nines as differing versions of Messieur Kenneth or Mamoiselle Barbie, partaking in a gourmet dinner the likes of which could never have been gauged on any calorie counter. The members didn’t recognise each other without spandex. Some were placing their palms on people’s foreheads before they recognised their sans helmet roadie friends.
Many thanks to the new and outgoing committee for a great year and a great send off to 2006. Thanks also to the sponsors for contributing to the raffle prizes and awards made to the various athletes. Check out the winners and pretenders in the table below.
Thanks in particular to all our hardy supporters and unstoppable athletes.
Here’s to a happy Christmas and safe and successful 2007. More photos here.
